Nurse’s double organ transplant wait: I keep hoping for match

Critical care nurse Joanne Blackburn has been on the organ transplant register for two years. She needs kidney and pancreas matches, without which she will require dialysis for the rest of her life. She has worked in the critical care unit of Royal Stoke University Hospital for the past 18 year and says her role – as well as her own experience – gives her insight into the life-giving chance organ donation represents. During Organ Donation Week, she is appealing for people to sign the organ donation register. Ms Blackburn discusses the impact on her life of a long wait for a donor match.
