Pain is a subjective experience and there are a variety of tools nurses and other healthcare staff can use to assess factors such as intensity, location, mobility and impact on quality of life. Pain assessment tools can also measure the effectiveness of pain treatments, while there are specific tools to assess pain in people with dementia or severe learning difficulties
