'Just nurses': staff say referrals rejected by hospital doctors
Care Quality Commission inspectors heard from emergency nurses at Basildon University Hospital, who said they were not ‘empowered’ by medical staff to make referrals, which was found to have contributed to overcrowding and delays to patient care in the emergency department. Inspectors also found a ‘disjointed’ and ‘fractured’ leadership in the service.
