Clinical

The value of service user feedback

Wales Cancer Research Network was invited to host a patient panel workshop at a national conference, using patients’ experience in clinical trials to improve the cancer research community’s practice. Five patients were identified and ‘buddied’ with healthcare professionals involved in research. During the workshop, five facilitated groups heard patients’ views and feelings about participating in trials. The main messages imparted were: approach patients early and involve the whole team, provide clear information and check understanding, and improve patients’ access to research results. A short film has been made to highlight the importance of using patient experience in clinical trials to improve research practice.
