Severe sepsis: do emergency departments offer patients optimal care?
<p>Sepsis claims thousands of lives every day throughout the world (Kieft et al 1993), while patients with severe sepsis occupy about 46 per cent of all intensive care bed days in England, Northern Ireland and Wales (Padkin et al 2003), resulting in substantial cost to the NHS.</p>
