Ensuring clients have the capacity to consent to treatment
Aim This article discusses the evaluation of a consent form for adults with learning disabilities who are referred to specialist learning disability dementia services.
Method Sixteen people with a range of learning disabilities who had undertaken the consent procedure were questioned about their experiences.
Results Twelve participants gave similar answers to the questions, which indicates they have similar levels of understanding.
Conclusion Participants’ recommendations were incorporated into a revised consent form, which was found acceptable and effective.
