One parent’s experience of autism spectrum disorder
This article is written from the perspective of a parent who has a child with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). My son has taught me that living with autism is simply another approach to life. I have learned a great deal over the years but attending a course on ASD at Edinburgh Napier University has reminded me just how challenging his life can be. The triad of impairments – social communication, social interaction and imagination – profoundly affect his life. The course on ASD has underlined the importance of reviewing our own behaviour and attitude towards those with ASD.
