Ensuring service users can access crucial information
When people with learning disabilities use mainstream healthcare services, they are more likely to receive poor standards of care. They seldom attend screening programmes, often because they lack accessible information about them. This article describes how two learning disability nurses in NHS Lanarkshire co-ordinated and led a project to develop and appraise a range of easy read booklets and DVDs, a total communication aid and a website, to improve the accessibility of information for people with learning disabilities and staff involved in their care.
