District nurses could go on strike over pay banding dispute

RCN indicative ballot of district nurses at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde shows ‘overwhelming’ willingness to take strike action over a pay banding dispute. RCN Scotland claims no band 6 district nursing jobs have been evaluated by the health board using a previously agreed job description. The college is considering the ballot results and next steps, including a formal statutory ballot for strike action, and says: ‘The health board can avoid a strike by respecting the nationally agreed process, evaluating their job description and respecting the outcome.’ Campaigners have been calling for district nursing to be classed as advanced practice, with pay to match, given their high level of autonomy, experience and knowledge.
