End of life care services should welcome newly registered nurses
End of life and palliative care should offer more career opportunities for newly registered nurses and support advanced practice roles, England’s chief nurse told a conference panel event. Duncan Burton said these changes are necessary to tackle unequal access to palliative and end of life care services. Fellow conference speaker, University of Cambridge clinical academic community nurse Ben Bowers presented research that found community nurses are playing ever more important roles in provision of palliative and end of life care. But he said those community services have not be given proper resources and called on policy makers and community providers to support nurses’ roles in this area.
