‘Explosion’ in lecturer redundancies a risk to nursing workforce

A surge in nursing lecturer redundancies at educational institutions offering nursing degree courses in England threatens the future nursing workforce, warns the RCN. Freedom of Information (FOI) requests sent by the RCN to universities offering nursing courses in England found a jump of 1,187% in redundancies since 2020-21. Describing it as a crisis, the RCN said the shift risks undermining NHS staffing, as universities are a pipeline for the country’s future nursing workforce. The RCN and others call for more government funding, a workforce strategy and a campaign to promote nursing education and nursing careers.
