Graduate jobs: can turning band 2 vacancies into band 5 posts work?

Government’s unfunded ‘graduate guarantee’ scheme intended to ensure an entry-level job for every newly registered nurse (NRN) in England will rely on spending being redirected from vacant posts elsewhere in the NHS workforce. RCNi estimates 5,000 healthcare support worker vacancies would have to be sacrificed to address the shortfall in entry-level jobs that is leaving NRNs struggling to start their nursing careers. A nursing workforce expert is concerned about the potential effectiveness of the scheme, in part due to its temporary nature, and whether funding will be matched to staffing need.
