NHS pay standoff: what’s the next move for nursing staff?

There is a standoff in the resolution of the 2025-2026 pay award and the RCN has demanded that the government begins formal negotiations. It says nurses should not be ‘fighting for scraps’ once again after members rejected the 3.6% pay award, and it has called for meaningful structural reform which would ‘turn the profession around. A joint demand for timely pay uplifts for general practice nurses has also been made.
