Nursing home death: failures in care and wound management
Coroner’s prevention of death report resulting from the death of Maureen Powell in a Nottinghamshire nursing home found her existing frailty, which caused her death, was compounded by the deterioration of a pressure ulcer that was not properly managed by staff. The coroner pointed to the home’s care failings: in not inspecting Ms Powell’s skin; in repositioning her; its use of pressure-easing equipment, and in record-keeping. He has given the home, Red Oaks Care Community, an August deadline for responding to his report.
