Senior nurse struck off for falsely using free parking permit

Band 6 nurse Karen Horton was struck off by an NMC fitness to practise panel after fraudulently using a free hospital parking permit meant for relatives of end-of-life care patients, and falsely ordering zopiclone for personal use. The panel found that between 2021 and 2023 Ms Horton abused her position, lied during a subsequent investigation and showed limited insight. She was dismissed by her workplace for gross misconduct in 2024. Despite partial admissions and colleagues’ support, she has been struck off the nursing register.
