What does a nurse expert witness do – and how can I become one?
Experienced nurses can offer their clinical expertise in legal cases to provide insights into nursing practice, and help-non-clinical professionals understand complex medical information. Being an expert witness also counts as participatory CPD for revalidation with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). We look at what’s involved in the roles of expert nurse witness and nurse case manager, which specialisms are most in demand for the roles, and the experience nurses require. Expert witness services representatives explain how they recruit and train for the roles, and typical pay for cases, which compares favourably with senior-level NHS pay.
