Nurse pay outside the NHS: what’s the minimum staff should expect?

More than one in five nurses in the UK are employed outside of the NHS, including for private or independent social care operators, charities and local government. Their pay can be very different to that of NHS nursing staff on Agenda for Change contracts, which provide a rigid pay structure. To try to address this, the RCN has published a set of employment standards so nurses in those workforces know what they should expect – and their employers understand fair standards of remuneration. Here’s what the standards say about salary, unsocial and additional hours payments, sick pay and annual leave.
