Nigerian test centre fraud: findings and fallout two years on
Nearly 2,000 internationally educated nurses who were either on the UK’s nursing register or had applied to join it were caught up in an investigation following suspected fraud at a test centre in Nigeria. Data analysis by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) suggested that computer-based tests for overseas nurses wanting to join the UK register were being completed in suspiciously quick times at the Yunnik Technologies centre. The regulator invalidated the nurses’ test results and asked them to take the tests again. Two years on, the regulator is about to conclude its investigations into individual nurses. We hear from those involved, and look at criticism of the NMC’s approach.
