Back to band 5: regaining your clinical skills as a senior nurse

Nurses can lose touch with their clinical skills as their careers progress and they move away from direct patient care. NHS’s England Back to the Floor programme allows nurses who are still on the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register to refresh their competencies and regain confidence through placements with NHS organisations, working alongside and learning from colleagues at band 5. This ultimately aids retention of experienced staff, and also enables skills and knowledge exchange between senior and junior nurses. Find out what the Back to the Floor programme involves, who it is aimed at and how it can help experienced and more junior nursing staff develop their skills and learn from each other.
