Nurse burnout-busters: 6 things your employer should do
Burnout is cited as one of the main reasons nurses quit the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register. Two nurses with expertise in health and safety and processing trauma discuss six approaches all nursing employers should take to protect their staff from risk of burnout. These are: being supportive and making nursing staff feel valued; paying nurses properly and ensuring reasonable workload; protecting their physical and emotional safety; ensuring staff who raise safety concerns are listened to; recognising nurses’ physical and emotional well-being needs; and acknowledging they have family and personal commitments that must sometimes take priority.
