Coroners’ death warnings: is a lack of district nurses leading to harm?

The Queen’s Institute of Community Nursing (QICN) and the Nuffield Trust state that many district nurses are concerned that staff shortages are causing patient harm. This echoes RCNi analysis of prevention of future deaths reports issued by coroners in the past 18 months, which found six reports that highlighted district nurse shortages as a potential factor in deaths. QICN chief executive Steph Lawrence equated the current district nursing situation as being akin to ‘corridor care in the community’
