Patient care at diagnosis: a planned education approach
The diagnosis of diabetes can have a deep and long-lasting effect on patients’ lives. The care and support they receive at this time is of the utmost importance in helping patients to cope with and adjust to their newly diagnosed condition. This article discusses the development of a structured protocol to encompass the emotional and physical care that patients require following a new diagnosis. The protocol will be piloted at the author’s primary care trust.
