Advanced practice: what will NMC regulation mean for nurses?
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has introduced principles for formally regulating advanced nursing and midwifery practice, aiming to clarify roles, ensure consistency and improve patient safety. With up to 50,000 nurses potentially affected, we look at how the NMC’s principles of advanced practice will affect nurses, including challenges such as varied training standards, inconsistent recognition, and the transition of experienced nurse practitioners who are without master’s degrees. The NMC expects nurses to have their advanced-level practice status reflected on the register from 2029.
