NHS severance payment offers: why it’s worth being wary
Nurses may be aware of mutually agreed resignation schemes (MARS) being used in their organisations. These schemes allow employers to reduce staff numbers without making roles redundant, meaning staff can be redeployed to take over freed-up roles. While the RCN opposes the use of MARS in the NHS, the schemes have been on the rise, possibly as a way of easing financial pressures. The RCN argues that a MARS offers less attractive settlements than redundancy and may be a way to cut costs that disadvantages participating staff.
