NHS nursing staff stuck in a broken pay scale ‘time warp’: unions
Nursing unions, led by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), have united to demand urgent reform of the Agenda for Change pay structure, calling it outdated and broken. In a letter to health and social care secretary Wes Streeting, the unions say they want direct talks with the government to begin now, and confirm they will not take part in the NHS Pay Review Body process currently used to determine pay increases for NHS nursing staff. They cite key issues including poor pay progression, low starting salaries, lack of recognition for nurses’ skills and increased autonomy, as well as recruitment and retention issues.
