NHS pay: staff prepared to take strike action, union warns

The union Unison announces the results of its member consultation on the 2025-26 3.6% pay award for NHS staff, revealing that the overwhelming majority who voted opted to reject the award. The results also show that more than two thirds would back walkouts if the union balloted for strike action. Unison argues that the pay rise is unfair when compared with other public sector worker rises, criticises the government’s reliance on the NHS Pay Review Body and says it is ‘hiding behind’ it. Results from the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) and Unite union consultations on the pay award are also explained.
