Nurse struck off for cheating twice in master’s exams

An experienced nurse who was twice caught cheating in exams for a master’s degree has been struck off the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) register. Mohammed Khan was on the MSc advanced neonatal nurse practitioner programme at the University of Southampton. He broke exam rules by bringing a prepared answer with him and became distressed when invigilators discovered what he had done, an NMC fitness to practice (FtP) panel heard. He attempted to cheat again, on a second resit of the exam, the panel heard. The FtP panel found Mr Khan to be unrepentant. It noted that had he passed the exam using the notes, he would have become an advanced neonatal nurse practitioner prescribing medications without competence to do so, placing patients at risk.
