Patient dies from sepsis after string of wound care failures

After an 88-year-old woman died a few months after being admitted to hospital following a fall, a coroner's prevention of future death report details the circumstances of the deterioration in Beatrice Smith's condition, how her serious pressure ulcer was not treated by tissue viability nurses for a prolonged period while she was in hospital, and the failures in care at the care home she was discharged to. The coroner also warns of a risk of similar deaths as there have been no changes made at the care home since Ms Smith’s death.
